The 32nd Flavor, Volume 3

Ok, so here it is, the 32nd Flavor, Volume 3. After the Beef and Garlic Festival, we drove further away from home to check out a waterfall. We did some walking around, I snapped a few hundred pics and we headed back home. On the way back, we went past the festival area and back into Takko Town, where Garlic HQ is located. That's where we ran into the American Garlic Queen again, and her interpreter, who said she remembered us from the festival. We bought some garlic related products, Mrs. Tokyo Slim talked me out of buying the Garlic Wine, but then I saw a freezer. I walked closer to it and drew open the top. Inside, with bright green Katakana on it, was Garlic Ice Cream. It reads (in Katakana) Niniku Ice Cream.

So how was it? Here's the official review:
Not so good. Of course I had to take a whiff and get the aroma of this ice cream. Some call it the bouquet. It was straight garlic, yo. It smelled like a big ole pile of minced garlic. I took a (small) timid scoop with my spoon and tasted it... Cold like ice cream, yet warm in flavor. I ate on. It kind of warmed my chest as I ate it. Like heart burn, yet in a recreational way. As I continued to dig my way to the bottom of this tiny tub, I wished the experience was over. I knew I was gonna reek of garlic, and with every bite, I knew I was gonna reek that much longer. Eventually it was gone, and, with both hands free, I could continue our drive home and talk about the experience with Mrs. Slim, who was crammed into her van door as far away from me as she could be, and urging me to use words that didn't start with the letter "H". I started to feel a litle rough after about 15-20 minutes. There was a desire to wretch it all, but I stood strong and toughed it out.

Over-all, I'd have to say the ice cream was horrible, just on the reason that I wished it was gone after the first bite. Would I eat Garlic Ice Cream again? Yes, because I'm a jackass and there's a brand of garlic ice cream called "Dracula" that I have seen on Japanese blogs, but have yet to see in person. I was expecting it at Garlic HQ, but it appears to be not backed by the city of Takko, which makes it somewhat more appealing, oddly enough.

So, the 32nd Flavor, Volume 3 is over, but my play-date with Garlic Ice Cream has only just begun...
