Jirisan National Park: Busted
Well, the weekend me and Weez have looked forward to for the past 2 months has turned into a complete bust. We left friday, right after work and made it as far as Namwon. Saturday morning, despite torrential downpours, we bussed it to Hwaeomsa, which turned out to be a mistake, but it really made no difference. Why? Because all mountain trails in Jirisan National Park were closed due to rain.
Had it not been raining, we still would have been moderately screwed. The info we had on this peak said there were 3 trails leading to it. We picked the starting point that went up the side of the mountain for 7km to a peak of roughly 1400m. Then it was another 26km along the ridge and up to the peak of roughly 1900m. We would not have made it up and back before dark and would have wasted most of the day driving around the bottom of the mountain to a shorter trail.
This was the first trip I've taken that turned out so horribly wrong. It had to be this one, and wasted 2 of the 4 days we had off. The only upside to it; we were off.
Here's the pictures I took from "The Biggest, Best-est Hike on the Tallest Mountain in Korea" trip!!!
