Weekends and Driving

So without going into too much detail, I'll just say the base did "ok" with our UCI inspection. That being said, there was a Re-Evaluation that went on this weekend concerning a readiness type exercise situation. We were put on lockdown after Friday night, so we couldn't leave the base until Sunday afternoon. This destroyed me and Weez's plans to hike. Queue the trombone with the "Wah-wah-wahhhh" sound. I think that's how you spell it.

This coming weekend, there's a base-wide power outage and we've (plumbers/electricians/power-pro) got to work it. The rest of the squadron has been advised "it'd be a good weekend to go up to Osan." There's gonna be no electricity all day saturday. So, another weekend shot to shit.

See, we could go do a day hike on Sunday because we're off, but you run the risk of not getting a bus back to base by Monday morning. No good. That's why we do the hikes on a Saturday; to have Sunday as a buffer day to get back to base. Yes, it sucks not being allowed to have a car. I guess I never mentioned that on here, did I? Yes, all of my travels through Korea have been on public transportation. At my own expense, at the mercy of the public schedule, and a whole lotta walkin. Tours are for suckers. I am 1 stripe away from being allowed to have a car.

E-7 can own a POV (privately owned vehicle), below that, you can't. Well, I guess you could own one, you just wouldn't be able to drive it! So, as a 32 year old, grown-ass man, I am not allowed to drive a vehicle unless it's got government plates. I'm serving 1 year here, preserving the rights and freedoms of the South Korean people, so that they can drive when-ever they want, where-ever they want. God bless the USA.

Just think how much money you are saving not having to pay $3.00 a gallon. That means more money to invest, so you are making money, you should be thanking Uncle for that.
